How to Keep a Travel Journal With Photos and Short Notes
Practical guide
While away, keep one moment when you pause
You do not need to document every stop. Pick a pause on the way back or during a break and keep one picture and sentence. Type a place name in the entry; this does not describe maps or automatic location tracking.
- Check the date you want the entry to represent.
- Type a place name you will recognize and choose one photo if you have one.
- Add one observation or conversation and save the entry.
A blank template: date, place, photo, observation
Select and copy the template below. A place name can be an informal description you will recognize. If you did not take a photo, write “no photo” and keep the words.
A day-trip example: a pause on the trail
This fictional editorial example uses a licensed reference photo; it is not an account of a real trip or a user testimonial. The picture keeps the path. The note keeps the reason for stopping.

A weekend example: a conversation over coffee
The same template can keep a break rather than a journey. This is another licensed reference photo with a fictional entry, not a real trip record.

At home, add only the clues that are missing
You do not need to rewrite the trip at home. Add a missing place name or a conversation you remember, and leave the rest. For choosing words to accompany a photo, use the photo-diary guide.
For older photos or a trip across time zones, check the date you want to remember and the entry date. This does not describe automatic capture-date import.

No photo? Keep a sentence instead
If you missed the photo, keep one thing you saw, heard, or said. You do not have to turn it into a long travel story.

Later, revisit by date or by photo
Use the calendar when you remember the date, or the photo gallery when a picture is your starting point. JotDiary can keep notes and photos as separate entries on your personal timeline.
Separate diaries, if you want one for each trip, require Premium. The app is free to download with ads and in-app purchases. Check purchase details in the app.
